#611 was delivered new to the Norfolk & Western Railway in 1950.
#611 was retired from revenue service in 1959.
#611 is the 2nd Largest (by locomotive weight) and 2nd most powerful (by tractive effort) steam locomotive in the USA. 
#611 is the largest and most powerful, operational, coal burning steam locomotive in the USA. 

N&W J #611 is owned by the Virginia Museum of Transportation in Roanoke, Virginia.
