Cedar Point & Lake Erie Railroad Steam Train Ride - Sandusky, Ohio.
The Cedar Point & Lake Erie Railroad at Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio is a 36" gauge railway that operates historic, coal-burning steam locomotives.
The train ride opened at Cedar Point in 1963.
The Railroad makes a 2-mile loop within the park making stops at Celebration Plaza and Frontier Town. In addition to views of Cedar Point Rides and Roller Coasters, there is also a particularly scenic section with views of Lake Erie.
The Railroad currently has four operating steam locomotives on its roster -
#1 "G.A. Boeckling" | 2-4-0 | Built in 1927 by Davenport Locomotive Works.
#4 " George R." | 2-4-0 | Built in 1942 by Porter. Originally built as a 38" Gauge.
#22 "Myron H." | 2-4-0 | Built in 1922 by Vulcan Iron Works. Originally built as an 0-4-0T.
#44 "Judy K." | 2-4-0 | Built in 1923 by Vulcan Iron Works. Originally built as an 0-4-0T.
An additional steam locomotive, #3 "Albert" is a 2-6-0 built in 1910 by Davenport Locomotive Works. Albert operated at the park until the early 1990s and is no longer operational but is on display in the park.
Locomotive #1 is possibly one of the most traveled and legendary theme park steam locomotives. It was rebuilt for use at the Great America theme park in Illinois, it was sold to a private owner in California who then traded it to Disneyland who sent it to Walt Disney World where the locomotive was named "Ward Kimball" and placed on display at Epcot. It was then traded to Cedar Point for their "Maude L" steam locomotive. The locomotive was then sent to Knott's Berry Farm to be restored in their shop and then sent back to Cedar Point where it is now on the operating roster. The "Maude L." is in operation at the Disneyland Railroad as their #5, the "Ward Kimball."
