Disneyland Railroad | Disneyland Park | Anaheim, California

The Disneyland Railroad is a 36" narrow-gauge steam railway that was built for the opening of Disneyland Park in 1955. The railroad features five operating steam locomotives that burn fuel oil as they circle the park, stopping at four stations along the way, making this railroad both an attraction and a form of transportation throughout the park. When the park opened, the railroad was known as the "Santa Fe & Disneyland Railroad," and locomotives #1–4 are still named for past Santa Fe Railroad presidents.
As the railroad circles the park, it makes stops at Main Street USA, New Orleans Square, Toontown Station, and Tomorrowland Station. The New Orleans Square Station is where the locomotives take on water and are serviced throughout the day. Across from the boarding platform, the original Frontierland Station from the opening of the park (there was no New Orleans Square when the park opened in 1955) still stands. Also at New Orleans Square, listen for the working telegraph inside the depot and watch for the working semaphore signals. Inside Main Street Station, a replica model of Walt Disney's original miniature steam locomotive, the "Lilly Belle," is on display.
Depending on how busy the park is, the Disneyland Railroad will operate two, three, or four locomotives and train sets.
#1 "C. K. Holiday" is a 36" gauge, 4-4-0 steam locomotive built by WED Enterprises in 1955 for Disneyland Park.

#2 "E. P. Ripley" is a 36" gauge, 4-4-0 steam locomotive built by WED Enterprises in 1955 for Disneyland Park.

#3 "Fred Gurley" is a 36" gauge, 2-4-4T steam locomotive built by Baldwin in 1894.
This locomotive was originally built as a 0-4-4T and was rebuilt as a 2-4-4T by Disney.
It entered service at Disneyland in 1958.

#4 "Ernest S. Marsh" is a 36" gauge, 2-4-0 steam locomotive built by Baldwin in 1925.
This locomotive was originally built as a 0-4-0T and later rebuilt as a 0-4-0 before being rebuilt by Disney.
It entered service at Disneyland in 1959.

#5 "Ward Kimball" is a 36" gauge, 2-4-4T steam locomotive built by Baldwin in 1902.
This locomotive was originally built as a 0-4-4T.
This locomotive was added to the railroad for the park's 50th anniversary in 2005.
The "Ward Kimball" previously operated at the Cedar Point & Lake Erie Railroad as their "Maude L."

The Disneyland Railroad has one wooden caboose, as well as a wooden Parlor Car named "Lilly Belle." The Parlor Car was built in 1955 as an observation coach for the Disneyland Railroad. It is the only original Disneyland coach still operating at Disneyland. While it can often be seen on Disneyland trains, it is only available for rides on special occasions or as part of an extra-fee guided tour. The Lilly Belle replica locomotive on display at Main Street Station, as well as the Lilly Belle Parlor Car that operates on the Disneyland Railroad, are two of the four pieces of Disney Railroad Equipment to carry that name.

Of note — Disneyland is also home to the Main Street Horse-Drawn Streetcar, one of the world's only daily operating horse-drawn trolley transportation systems. The streetcar operates up and down Main Street from the entrance of the park (next to the Disneyland Railroad Main Street Station) to Sleeping Beauty Castle. Typically, two streetcars will operate each day along with other vintage transportation, such as the double-decker omnibus and horseless carriages.
Disneyland is also home to the Mark Twain Riverboat, a steam-powered paddlewheel riverboat that departs from Frontierland and passes by New Orleans Square and Critter Country as it circles Tom Sawyer Island. While the riverboat is not completely authentic since it rides on an underwater track, it is 100% steam-powered.
Disneyland Park is also home to North America's first monorail system, which departs from Tomorrowland and stops at the Downtown Disney shopping area. This monorail system was built in 1959.
