Tickets are now on sale for the "Joliet Rocket" featuring Nickel Plate Steam Locomotive #765. The #765 is a 2-8-4 "Berkshire" coal burning steam locomotive built by Lima Locomotive Works in 1944, it has been restored and is operated by the Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society. The "Joliet Rocket" will operate two excursions each day on September 15, 2018 and September 16, 2018 departing Joliet, Illinois and traveling to downtown Chicago, Illinois on the former Rock Island mainline, now owned by Metra. The Joliet Rocket will arrive at the historic LaSalle Street Station where passengers may disembark for a layover on the station platform which will feature food & beverages, entertainment, and unique photo opportunities. This is a repeat of excursions that took place in 2017, and I highly recommend rail fans make plans to ride and experience this unique mainline excursion. With four departures over the weekend, there will be lots of opportunities to ride, and photograph the train.
