My favorite part of the website to update is the "Mainline Steam" Schedule! This morning the Friends of the #261 announced a Summer Weekend Excursion with Milwaukee Road Steam Locomotive #261.
Milwaukee Road #261 is a coal burning 4-8-4 Steam Locomotive built by ALCO in 1944.
The 2 day excursion operates from Minneapolis MN to Duluth MN on June 4 & 5, 2016.
The Train operates with cooperation of the BNSF Railway, and Amtrak. The trip will utilize BNSF’s ex-Great Northern Railway Hinckley Subdivision, which saw its last regular passenger service in 1985, when Amtrak’s “North Star” made its last run. The line boasts several large steel trestles, including the tall bridge over the Kettle River at Sandstone, Minn.
In Duluth MN, passengers will have the opportunity to visit the Lake Superior Railroad Museum, home of several locomotive displays.
The Excursion will include coach, first class and premium class tickets. Premium class includes reserved seating in Milwaukee Road Skytop observation Cedar Rapids or Super Dome 53. Food service is included with your ticket in First Class and Premium Class. Breakfast and lunch on the way to Duluth, with Lunch and hors d’oeuvres on the return trip.
