Milwaukee Road #261 will operate a 2-day Mainline Excursion from Minneapolis, Minnesota to Duluth, Minnesota on Saturday June 9th, returning Sunday June 10th, 2018. (Passengers will overnight in Duluth.)
Locomotive #261 is a 4-8-4, coal burning, steam locomotive built by ALCO in 1944. It is one of the largest Steam Locomotives operating in the United States.
This excursion operates over the BNSF Mainline "Hinckley Division" with speeds up to 60 MPH. In the past, 261 excursions have featured open vestibules and open baggage car viewing cars allowing rail fans a chance to fully experience steam railroading.
In addition to the #261, the friends of the #261 own and maintain a fleet of coach, lounge, and first class cars in matching Milwaukee Road paint scheme. The "Premium Class" Super Dome and Cedar Rapids cars are both one-of -a-kind pieces of railroad history.
An added bonus to this excursion is the fact that Duluth, Minnesota is home to the Lake Superior Railroad Museum.
