Spokane, Portland & Seattle #700, on display in Portland OR. This 4-8-4 Steam Locomotive was built by Baldwin in 1938.
This Past November, I was able to stop by the Oregon Rail Heritage Center in downtown Portland Oregon. This is both a museum, and a working steam repair shop and during my visit a large group of volunteers were finishing up the restoration of Southern Pacific "Daylight" #4449. Being able to watch the rebuilding process up close was a real treat.

Also on display was SP&S 4-8-4 #700, and
OR&N 4-6-2 #197.  All three locomotives are owned by the City of Portland and have connections to the cities railroading heritage and the center does a wonderful job of preserving it.

The #4449 and #700 are two of the worlds largest operating steam locomotives, and are both listed on our MAINLINE STEAM page.
