Union Pacific #844, is an oil burning, 4-8-4 steam locomotive built by Alco in 1944. The locomotive is still owned and maintained by the Union Pacific Railroad and travels for special events each year. In 2018, the only scheduled trip for the #844 is the annual "Denver Post Frontier Days Train" that operates from Denver, Colorado to Cheyenne, Wyoming over the Union Pacific mainline on Saturday July 21, 2018. The Frontier Days train sells out each year, and in order to purchase tickets you must enter into a lottery from May 6 - 16. All entries during that time will get an equal chance of being drawn for the chance of purchasing tickets for this unique excursion. Passengers will have a layover in Cheyenne, Wyoming where you may explore the Frontier Days activities including the annual rodeo.
