Serengeti Express Steam Train - Busch Gardens, Florida
The Serengeti Express is a 36" narrow gauge steam railroad that travels through Busch Gardens Tampa in Florida. The railroad was built for the park in 1971 and opened as the "Trans Veldt Railway." The train makes 3 stops as it travels through the park and also travels through the "Serengeti Plain" where free-roaming exotic animals can be seen from the train.
While the locomotives vary in appearance, they are mechanically identical Crown Steam Locomotives.
Each locomotive burns propane.
Locomotives #601 and #5 have the standard American Locomotive Appearance as they were originally built for other parks.
Locomotives #9 and #4 both appear African themed as they were built specifically for Busch Gardens in Tampa.
On a typical day, two steam locomotives will operate and on busy days and during events, all three locomotives will operate.
Steam Locomotive #601 (Green) is a 36" gauge, 4-4-0 Steam Locomotive that was built by Crown in 1974 for Kings Dominion Theme Park in Virginia.
Steam Locomotive #9 (Red) is a 36" gauge, 4-4-0 Steam Locomotive that was built by Crown in 1971 for Busch Gardens Tampa.
Steam Locomotive #5 (Yellow) is a 36" gauge, 4-4-0 Steam Locomotive that was built by Crown in 1970 for Six Flags St. Louis Theme Park.
