TrainChasers.com - Steam Train and Railroad Photography, Guides, and Reviews.
I've travelled across North America riding steam trains, visiting railroad museums, participating in railway photography events, and just simply chasing trains. This site is a way for me to share my railroad photography as well as my train ride experiences with you. The guides and calendars on this site will help you plan a railroad excursion or train ride adventure of your own.
One of the biggest tips I can offer is to plan and research. Visiting a railroad museum can be a vastly different experience depending on what kind of special event is being held. Many operations hold special events throughout the year where rarely seen equipment is in operation. Some examples of this -
Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City - Operates all 3 steam locomotives including 2 wood burning locomotives for July 4th Weekend each year.
Illinois Railway Museum in Union - Holds special weekend events each year including "Members Weekend" where a very large collection of equipment is in operation including Steam, Diesel, and Electric Interurban sets.
Tweetsie Railroad in Blowing Rock, North Carolina - Holds "Railfan Weekend" each year where both steam locomotives are in operation for photo events, double-heading, and the chance to ride in a narrow gauge coach.
Greenfield Village in Dearborn, Michigan - "Old Car Festival" each year features both 4-4-0 Steam Locomotives operating at the village including after dark operations as well as a large collection of operating Antique cars and Ragtime era live music.
Naturally, there are special "one time only" events each year as well that include photo charters, mainline steam operations, and more.
If this site is helpful in your planning, please let me know - I would love to hear about your railroad adventures.
Happy TrainChasing!
