BUSCH GARDENS RAILWAY | WILLIAMSBURG, VIRGINIA

The Busch Gardens Railway at Busch Gardens Williamsburg in Virginia is a 36" gauge railroad that operates propane-fired steam locomotives built by Crown Metal Works.
The railway opened with the park in 1975 and features a 1.5-mile scenic loop that stops at Scotland, New France, and Festa Italia. Riders enjoy views of the park, landscaped areas, and an impressive trestle crossing along the route.
The railroad currently has three operating steam locomotives. Two of these locomotives were custom-built for the park to resemble colorful European steam engines. Mechanically, they are identical to Crown’s standard American-style locomotives, but they stand out as some of the most unique engines Crown ever built.
Operating Steam Locomotives:
  • #239 "Der Hochbeinige" | 4-4-0 | Built in 1974 by Crown for Busch Gardens Williamsburg (Cosmetic: Light Brown, German Theme)
  • #661 "Balmoral Castle" | 4-4-0 | Built in 1974 by Crown for Busch Gardens Williamsburg (Cosmetic: Dark Blue, British Theme)
  • #17 "Alpen Express" | 4-4-0 | Built in 1972 by Crown for Lakeside Park (Cosmetic: Dark Green, American Style)
