Saturday, September 30, the train will include a rare mileage trip over the Minnesota Prairie Line, former Minneapolis & St. Louis track that has not seen passenger service since 1960. This trip will operate from Minneapolis Jct. to either Gibbon or Winthrop, pending on time.
Sunday, October 1, our excursion train will head west from Minneapolis Jct., towards Glencoe on what was the route of Milwaukee Road’s famed Olympian Hiawatha to Seattle/Tacoma and has not seen regularly scheduled passenger train service since 1969.
Sat. & Sun. trains will depart from Minneapolis Jct. at 9:00 am and return at approximately 5:00 pm.
The trip will be operated without diesel assistance westbound. A diesel on the rear of the train will pull the train backward to our origin point since there are no turning facilities on this route.
The trip will also include photo run-by's so passengers can capture photos and videos of No. 261 in action.
