N&W "J" #611 Announces 2017 Mainline Excursions!

Fire Up 611! has announced Spring, 2017, Mainline Excursions for Norfolk & Western "J" #611 over the Mainline of the Norfolk Southern Railroad.

#611 is a large, 4-8-4, coal burning steam locomotive, unique for it's streamlined appearance. #611 was built by the Norfolk & Western Roanoke shops in 1950. 

Public, Mainline Steam Excursions are rare, and usually sell out extremely fast. 

Several classes of service are available for each trip including Coach, Deluxe Coach, Parlor, Dome, and Chairmans Class.

April 22 & 23 - Greensboro NC - Roanoke VA 
This all day excursion travels on the ex-Southern Railway, and the ex-Virginian Railway. The excursion departs from the restored Southern Railway depot in Greensboro NC, now used by Amtrak. This is one of the nicest restored depots in the Country, with alot of the Southern Railway charm remaining.

May 6 & 7, 2017 - Lynchburg VA - Petersburg VA
This all day excursion travels on the ex-Norfolk & Western Railway.

May 27, 28 & 29, 2017 - Roanoke VA 
Half Day Excursions Depart each Morning for Lynchburg VA, traveling over the "Blue Ridge Grade." 

Half Day Excursions Depart each afternoon for Radford VA, traveling over the "Christiansburg Grade" and through the Montgomery Tunnel. 

As a special treat, the 1/2 day excursions operating out of Roanoke Virgina are being advertised as "No Diesel Assistance is Anticipated" Meaning that those excursions are likely to operate with only the #611 and no diesels in the consist.
